Term 1 Week 2 - Friday 13th September
Date: 18th Sep 2024 @ 3:26pm
We have had a fantastic first full week in Reception. The children have settled wonderfully, but were certainly tired come 3pm today! We had a great end to the week in our first Forest School session, the children were introduced to the first rule in Forest School which is "no pick, no lick and be careful with the stick". We also had to be careful incase there were any wasps lurking in all the fallen apples in our forest school area, luckily we didn't see any. The children enjoyed making little dens for animals, swinging on the new swing, climbing trees and making felt pictures. The weather was beautiful for our first session and we didn't get too cold or muddy!
Thank you to all of you who attended the Reading meeting yesterday and stayed to play with your children in class afterwards. They all loved having you there and showing you their learning environments. If you were unable to make it, don't worry, a handout was sent home, and you are always welcome to come and chat to us about any questions you may have. All the children have now come home with reading books, a reading diary and bookmark in a plasitc wallet. Please keep the books in these wallets to protect the books from any water bottle leaks. Please bring books to school everyday, and record in the reading diaries when you read at home with your child.
We have been so busy this week, including finishing off our class portraits, which are displayed in the school foyer. They look brilliant. We've been doing lots of work on rhyming and reading lots of rhyming books including Oi Frog, Hairy Maclary and Where's My Teddy. Another book we read as a class was Dr Suess ABC where we talked about the initial sounds in words. We also thought about our senses and smelt some different herbs and spices. As well as all this we have been looking at shapes, sequencing and puzzles. What a busy week!
