Beyond the Classroom
We aim at Ampney Crucis to give our children experiences beyond the classroom, an enhanced curriculum which means learning comes to life and that children have opportunities to take part in different experiences.
We have an extensive outdoor area (though you wouldn't realise it from the front of the school) with a quiet garden and a small wildlife area which is used for our Forest School. We also have a field just up the lane that we can use for sports.
Visitors
We like inviting visitors into school whether it is a parent with some experience or skill to share or an expert who can bring a topic to life. Recently Willow had a real life "pirate" to spend the morning with them and Chestnut were fortunate to have a question and answer session with our Local MP discussing the very important topic of climate change.
School Trips
We try and ensure that all classes go on at least 2 trips a year, one of these trips this year was a whole school outing to the pantomime and then one trip is linked to an area of learning. Year 6's are also invited to a special leaver's service at Gloucester Cathedral towards the end of the school year.
There are additional experiences children can sign up to such as Young Voices (where children come together at Birmingham Resort World Arena and sing in a massive concert for their parents.)
Sporting Opportunities
Through our partnership with a cluster of secondary and primary schools and the school games organisation we are able through out the year to take children (mainly from KS2) to after school events such as Dodgeball, Cross Country, Multi sports, Indoor athletics and Netball.
We also have in the Autumn and the summer term, Time to Shine Cricket coaches in for Year 1 to Year 6 and one off coaching sessions in sports such as tennis. These are all additional to the specialised sports coaching the children receive every week.
