Maple Class - Term 3 week 5

Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 1:22pm

We have had another busy week of learning!

This week our focus has been life in Kenya and the book we have been reading is Handa's Surprise  Della brought in several artifacts from Kenya and a book which we have loved looking closely at, learning about what life is like in Kenya.

In phonics we have learnt the trigraph igh (a grapheme containing 3 sounds) and the digraph oa.  We have also learnt the tricky word 'my'.  We have now learnt the tricky words the, I, no, go, to, he, she, we, me, be, was, my.  Please continue to practise reading these at home with your children.  We have been reading and writing lots of words as well as captions.

In maths we have continued to think about the number 6.  Partitioning 6, combining groups to make 6 and finding totals up to 6.   We have also been looking at repeating patterns using sounds and movements.  We combined this with our yoga practise to put a sequence of yoga moves together.

In Forest School we enjoyed making homes for different animals.  We also found a cut down Christmas tree that we all worked together to try and replant!  We had a gorgeous afternoon outside before heading back inside to join in with Bob Marley's Young Voices Live Singalong (scroll to 26.26 on the link) to celebrate what would have been his 80th birthday.

This month our musician of the month is Nurat Fateh Ali Khan so we have been listening to this music during Explore and Learn time.

Lisa from the library came in to read us stories on Thursday, it was dinosaur themed!  She read to us Never Touch a T Rex The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past and Rumble Rumble Dinosaur

In RE Maple looked at places which are special to Muslims and looked at what is special in a church.  We looked closely at stained glass windows and created our own fantastic ones.
