Maple Class - Term 3 week 6
Date: 14th Feb 2025 @ 12:20pm
This week our focus has been castles and we have been reading Zog. We turned our role play into a castle and have been very busy thinking about what life is like living in a castle and dressing up as knights, princesses and dragons, making up stories and acting out living in a castle. We also made some wonderful castles out of the construction toys.
In phonics we have learnt 3 diagraphs this week – oo (as in moon), oo (as in book) and ar (as in star). We have also learnt the tricky word you. We have been practicing reading and writing lots of words and captions containing these sounds as well as previously learnt sounds. We are all doing brilliantly with our phonics. Do please remember to listen to your children read their phonics books, this is really important to reinforce what we have been learning at school. They do not need to read the whole book at once, break it down into small chunks. You could read the green and red words at the beginning of the book and then another day read a couple of pages, or ask them to read a page and then you read a page.
In maths we have neem taking away from 6 and numbers up to 6 as well as finding less up to 6. We read the book There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight
We have been singing lots of nursery rhymes this week, they have really enjoyed these - Nursery Rhymes and Songs - Medleys - BBC Teach. We have also been learning to sing Puff the Magic Dragon
In Forest School we wrapped up warm and made our own potions for Princess Pearl to help Zog or any of the other dragons who may need her care. We wrote down our potion ingredient lists using our phonics knowledge.
Well done to Bunny, Woody and Felix who gained awards this week in our Celebration assembly. Well done to all the children who also won gymnastics badges.
We had an extra PE session on this week where we learnt tchoukball
Lee was back this week to continue our Samba drumming lessons, she is really impressed at how well they have picked it up. Out of all the schools she teaches Samba to in Gloucestershire, she only picked out two reception classes to take part in the performance at Cheltenham Town Hall in March, us being one of them, so well done Maple Class.
It really has been a busy term and I think we are all ready for a rest in half term! We wish you all a lovely week and look forward to seeing you when, hopefully, the weather will be getting warmer!
