Maple Class - Term 4 week 2

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 11:24am

This week our book focus has been Jaspers Beanstalk and Jack and the Beanstralk.  We have continued to think about the foods we can grow.  When reading Jaspers Beanstalk we thought about why the bean wasn’t growing, children said that Jasper had to be patient as it takes a long time for a bean to grow and also that the bean starts growing under the ground and the roots grow first.  We thought about the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and how his magic bean grew.  We learnt about the life cycle of a bean and ordered it ourselves.

Tuesday saw us take part in the Ampney Crucis C of E Primary Pancake Races – what fun we had!  We all brought in a pancake and frying pan from home and had races, we cheered on our friends and siblings!

On Monday we had a whole school Maths problem solving day.  Maple class were set a challenge to see how many different shapes they could make using 4 triangles!  We found 13 ways.  We also compared numbers and sequenced events in a stories and song.

In Phonics this week we have been practising the digraphs we have learnt so far with lots of reading and writing.

We had lots of frosty mornings this week and we noticed that some of the saucepans in the mud kitchen had ice on the top from the water left in them.  We put the ice in a tray and made predications about it melting.

We also worked on our throwing and catching skills this week with our teacher, we will continue this next week with our friends.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and came dressed as an adjective.  We had lots of different adjectives from sleepy, icy, Christmas, blue, fierce, scary, sparkly, colourful, magical!  Amazing effort, well done Maple.  Wolrd Book Day first started in 1995, so this was the 30th year!

We did lots more planting this week, planting sweet peas, grass and cress.  We can’t wait to see it all grow.  We observed that the pea shoots we planted last week have started to shoot.

Some of the things children have said they enjoyed doing this week in Maple

Ralph – playing with Szymon

Alfie – planting our grass seed

Woody – planting our grass and cress seed to make us have funky hair!

Diasy-Mai – I enjoyed World Book Day and wearing my PJs to school!

Sophie – I enjoyed World Book Day, I liked wearing my magical outfit

India – I have enjoyed World Book Day and selling my cakes

Della – I’ve enjoyed building

Loris – I’ve enjoyed being a Maple builder in the new Tinkering Workshop.

Congratulations to Loris, Szymon and Woody for their certificates in our Celebration Assembly today.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.  We have certainly been making the most of it in Maple this week.
