Maple Class - Term 4 week 4

Date: 21st Mar 2025 @ 12:31pm

Monday saw us start the week with our Samba drumming performance in Cheltenham Town Hall.  Thank you to all the parents who dropped and picked up the children.  They all had a fantastic time and did really well on such a big stage performing to so many people.  We were so pleased to welcome you into school on Thursday so you could see what we had been learning and take part with us playing the instruments at the workshop.  We hope you had as much fun as we did!

This week we have been continuing with thinking about how things grow and we enjoyed reading the book The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle.  We planted lots more this week, including potatoes, sunflowers and pepper seeds.  The grass seed we planted a couple of weeks ago has finally started to shoot, we think the warmer weather this week has helped with that!  The pea shoots we planted are also doing brilliantly.

In Phonics we have learnt 2 new trigraphs (one sound containing 3 letters) this week, ear (as in fear, year) and air (as in pair, fair).  We have had lots of practice writing the sounds in words and in short captions and sentences, as well as recognising them in words to read.

In maths we have been taking aware from 7 and numbers up to 7 as well we looking at 2d shapes and being aware of their properties.

In RE this week we thought about why Christians put crosses in their Easter Gardens and we thought about symbols of new life.  We then designed our own Easter egg template with representations of new life.

Lisa from the library came in on Thursday and read us Unicorn books (as per Maple Class request last time she came in!  She read Sugarlump and the Unicorn by Julia Donaldson and Theres A Unicorn in Your Book by Tom Fletcher.
