Term 1, week 4 - Friday 27th September
Date: 27th Sep 2024 @ 5:52pm
This week in Maple class our focus book has been Dear Zoo and we have been thinking about our pets that our special to us. We talked about the pets we have at home and put them into a bar chart to see which animals most of us have. 4 of us have a dog or a cat and 4 of us don't have any pets at all. We drew pictures of our pets and made our own Dear Zoo little books, using our scissor skills. We thought about other words we could use to describe the animals in Dear Zoo, and came up with some fantastic vocabulary!
We have loved learning our sounds this week. This week we learnt s,a,t,p. We practised forming our letters correcting and finding things around the classroom that begin with that sound. We have continued to do lots of blending and segmenting practise so as we can hear all the sounds in words and blend them together.
In maths we have been thinking about the number 5 and thought about how the size and shape of objects can change but the number is still the same. We've also been thinking about 3D worlds and used building blocks to make homes for the animals from Dear Zoo.
We have been busy learning our song to perform at Harvest Festival next Friday, we hope you will be able to come and hear us! In music we also made up our own 'happy dance'.
On Wednesday we visited the church where many of you came too. We loved ringing the bells and having a go at playing the organ. The walk to and from the church was lovely and luckily it didn't rain! We were all very sensible crossing the roads and being careful of the cars.
In art we looked at how to draw a person with more detail and had a go at this ourselves.
Friday we finished off with another brilliant Forest Scholl session where Rowan kindly collected some apples and washed them so as we could eat them. We used her special corer and peeler to cut them, they tasted delicious! We also loved going on the swing, looking for bugs, using clay to make models and decorations as well as making some fish and fishing rods!
What a busy week!
