Term 1, week 6 - Friday 11th October
Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 5:32pm
We seemed to have had very tired children by Friday afternoon, so we hope they will all sleep well for you this weekend!
This week we have been thinking about where we live a focused our work around the book Martha Maps it Out. We thought about why we need maps and how they can help us find places. We looked at a map of our local area and some of us even saw our houses! Together we drew our own map of Ampney Crucis and thought about what was in the village, and made sure they were included on our map - the road, school, park, village hall and church.
We learnt 4 new sounds this week in Phonics - g, o, c and k. Please continue to practise these with your children at home. We have been working hard on our letter formation and really thought about where each letter should begin and end. We loved getting the big paper out and practising them with the pens while listening to music. We are getting much more confident at blending and segmenting words, and even writing our words and our first ever caption! Well done Maple class.
In maths we have been thinking about the number 6 and using a number track to help us count 6 objects. We have also been thinking about 3D shapes - cube, cuboid, sphere, cone and cylinder. Can your children spot any of these at home?
In art we have been looking at using different media to create pictures and art work. We used chalk, pastels, charcoal and paint to create some wonderful art work. We used the small trees to make observational paintings and also looked at some photos Mrts Duffey took of the Northen Lights and used pastels to make our own creations.
In forest school we made wands, decorated them with wool and made small hibination houses for the animals who are getting ready to hibernate for the winter. We talked about what we like about autumn and the children had wonderful things to say from enjoying seeing the leaves falling off the trees, eating blackberries, throwing leaves in the air and seeing the leaves change colour.
What a busy week! Have a lovely weekend.
