Term 2, week 4 - Friday 29th November

Date: 29th Nov 2024 @ 4:11pm

This week we have continued our topic of Superheros and focused on the book Emergency! By Margaret Mayo and Alex Ayliffe. We have been thinking about all the emergency service workers and how they are heroes to us all.  We thought about all the different ways they look after us and protect us from danger.  We discussed them and some of the things we said were “they are heroes because they work together and they’re brave”, “the police save us from baddies”, “doctors and nurses look after us when we are poorly!”, “fire people rescue us”.

In phonics this week we have focused on the ‘e’ medial sound.  We have done a fantastic job of reading and writing CVC words such as leg, net, bed, pen, web, fell, den, peg, sell, neck, wet, fed.  We have also been reading 'alien' words, and have become very confident at sounding these words out and blending the sounds together.

In maths we have been looking at the number 9 and have done lots of investigation around the number 9 during Explore and Learn time, ordering numicon to 9, counting 9 objects around the classroom and counting 9 objects and placing them in 3 rows of 3.

We really enjoyed making our Christingles this week and the year 6 House Captains came down to help us.  Those of us that were able to go to the Christingle service at church enjoyed the service and lighting our Christingles.

We had a circle time this week discussing what being kind means and how we can be a kind friend.  What amazing things we said from being respectful, helping people when they’re struggling, looking after our friends, playing with others to saying sorry if you need to.  We also discussed what is special about our friends and Maple Class – what lovely things we all had to say about one another.

We also briefly talked about Thanksgiving on Thursday, which is being celebrated in America.  We talked about why people may celebrate thanksgiving and in Forest School we talked about what things we are thankful for.  These are the things we said:

Della “I am thankful for my brother”

Loris “I am thankful for the world”

Felix “I am thankful for the leaves”

India “I am thankful for school”

Daisy-Mai “ I am thankful for Alice”

Leone “I am thankful for the swing in forest school”

Alfie “I am thankful for my family”

Woody “I am thankful for my brother”

Alice “I am thankful for my bunny rabbit gloves”

Szymon “ I am thankful for my sisters”

Frankie “I am thankful for playing outside in forest school”

Ralph “I am thankful for forest school”

Sophie “I am thankful for my snuggly scarf”

Mrs Cordell “I am thankful for my good health”

Mrs Duffey “I am thankful for my family”

Finally, I asked the children this afternoon what they enjoyed this week:

I really enjoyed doing the baubles for our door with the pastels – Leone

I enjoyed doing my Christmas Card during Explore and Learn – Alfie

I liked thinking about Thanksgiving – Ralph

I liked the swing in forest school – Felix

I enjoyed making my hedgehog in forest school – Daisy-Mai

I enjoyed playing campervans in the home corner, we pretended we were lost and there was a lion coming, with Alice, Della and Daisy – Loris

I enjoyed doing the Christingles – Sophie

I enjoyed making my newspaper for my mum during forest school – Woody

I liked sitting next to Alfie at the Christingle service – Frankie

Have a lovely weekend.
