Term 2, week 5 - Friday 6th December
Date: 8th Dec 2024 @ 8:09pm
Well, the excitement towards Christmas has certainly gone up a notch this week! We have been busy in the throes of practising for our Nativity with Willow class, and on Friday the children did their first dress rehearsal run through and are looking fabulous. We can't wait to perform this to you on either Tuesday or Thursday this coming week.
It was lovely to welcome so many of you to our Christmas Craft afternoon on Monday. Thank you to all of you who came, we hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did. The children always love having you visit us and join in with our learning. We have also been arty this week making our community Christmas cards, they look fantastic.
As well as all the Christmas things, we have still done lots of learning. In phonics we have been practising reading and writing CVC words which contain ‘i’ as the medial sound such as bill, pick, lit, nip, dim. We have been practising reading short captions and are brilliant at recognising when a word contains a diagraph (two letters which make one sound, such as ll, ff, ck).
In maths we have continued looking at the number 9, counting objects on a number track and also things which cannot be seen, such as sounds. We have also been comparing the weights of objects. There was much excitement when wrapped presents arrived in our class on Thursday and we used the language light, heavy, lighter, heavier, lightest and heaviest to compare the weights of them. The children then enjoyed exploring the classroom finding different objects to compare weights.
Our book focus this week have been the ‘Little Hero’ book series, so we have looked at different sports heroes, science heroes, inventor heroes, to name a few. We looked at different types of heroes and discussed their life and achievements.
On Friday, Mrs Wood surprised us with a visit from our local community police officers. We were all so excited and loved learning about what they do and how they are superheroes in making sure they keep us safe and how they help our community.
We hope you have had a lovely weekend, and stayed safe during storm Darragh, it has certainly been a windy one.
