Term 1 Week 3 - Friday 20th September
Date: 21st Sep 2024 @ 3:33pm
We have all had another brilliant week in Maple Class, and what a way to end, with the thunder and lightening storm! There was much excitment during Forest School Friday afternoon as we listened out for the thunder, ready to make a dash indoors, which we had to do after about 20 minuites of being in the forest area! We still had a great afternoon - we looked for bugs, played in the mud kitchen, then collected leaves on the way back into the classroom where we took off our waterproofs and wellies and did some inside 'forest school' activities. We loved using the crayons to create leaf rubbings, then used scissors to cut these out. We placed the leaves we collected onto the parachute and sang an Autumn Song, while lifting the parachute up and down, trying to keep the leaves from hopping off. We then sorted the leaves and finished with the story of Oi Frog - we loved joining in with all the rhyming words.
We have focused on the book We Are Family this week, we talked about the Royal family and our own families and drew some amazing pictures, which are proudly displayed in the classroom. The children have loved looking at these and talking about them at snack time. We have continued to think about ourselves and what we like and what we are good at.
In Maths we have been counting to 5 and singing lots of number songs - 5 current buns, 5 speckled fogs, 5 little men in a flying saucer and 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed. The BBC have some brillient counting songs which you can sing with you children at home, you can find them here - BBC counting songs. We have also been thinking about positional language e.g. behind, in front of, above, below, next to, between and inside, using these words to describe the position of objects and also being able to get oursleves into the correct position, following instructions - we did a great job!
In Phonics we have conitnued to work on rhyming as well as focusing on blending and segmenting sounds, looking at objects and thinking about all the sounds we can hear in that word, and then blending those sounds together. Next week we are starting to learn our Level 2 Phonics Sounds, so look out for the flashcards in our book bags to practise at home. All children have now had reading books sent home. Please do bring these to school daily in their book bags, in the plastic wallet they were sent home in, and don't forget to record in their reading diary when you have read with them at home. Mrs Cordell has read with every child this week, and next week we will be starting our small group reading groups.
What a busy week we have had, we look forward to seeing you all next week and having our welcome service at the church on Wednesday morning.
